MEET BIG JOE KENNEDY

Big Joe Kennedy is a New Orleans–based pianist, bandleader, and entertainer recognized for delivering dynamic, audience-engaging performances rooted in the city’s rich musical traditions.

Influenced early by the blues and jazz scenes of Milwaukee and Chicago, Kennedy later earned a graduate degree in performance in Las Vegas before relocating to New Orleans in 2009. He went on to serve as pianist with the Dukes of Dixieland (2013–2022), performing for audiences nationwide and developing a performance style that blends technical artistry, stylistic authenticity, and natural rapport with listeners.

In New Orleans, Kennedy has appeared at leading venues including Mahogany Jazz Hall, The Jazz Playhouse, and The Carousel Lounge. He leads a range of bookable productions — from intimate solo piano concerts to high-energy New Orleans ensembles — designed for performing arts centers, festivals, and special events.

An experienced educator and author of Spread the Jam, Kennedy also presents workshops and residencies aligned with National Music Education Standards.
