Big Joe Kennedy is a New Orleans–based pianist, bandleader, and entertainer known for delivering engaging, high-quality performances rooted in the city’s rich musical traditions.
Originally shaped by the blues and jazz scenes of Milwaukee and Chicago, Kennedy later earned a graduate degree in performance in Las Vegas before making New Orleans his home in 2009. He served as pianist with the Dukes of Dixieland (2013–2022), performing for audiences nationwide and refining a style that blends virtuosic musicianship, deep stylistic authenticity, and audience connection.
In New Orleans, Kennedy has appeared at leading venues including Mahogany Jazz Hall, The Jazz Playhouse, and The Carousel Lounge, while also developing distinctive concert and event programs ranging from intimate solo piano performances to full-scale New Orleans party ensembles.
Beyond the stage, Kennedy is an active educator and clinician, presenting workshops and residencies aligned with National Music Education Standards. He is also the author of Spread the Jam.
Whether in a performing arts center, festival, or special event setting, Big Joe Kennedy delivers performances that are polished, dynamic, and unmistakably New Orleans.
